NHS HEALTH CHECKS
What Are NHS Health Checks?
Health Checks are available free of charge for East Riding adults aged 40 to 74 years old who have not previously been diagnosed with a long term condition, such as heart disease, liver disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and high blood pressure.
Individuals attend a face to face consultation where they are asked a series of questions and some simple tests are carried out to determine their risk of developing health issues in the future.
After the check is completed you will discuss the results and what this means to your health. Lifestyle advice is provided for example, on how to give up smoking, to be more active, to eat healthily or to lower alcohol consumption.
If needed, you will be referred to other services.
Contact the service providers below to find out more or to make an appointment.

Information about the Holderness Community Healthtrainer Service
The NHS healthtrainer service has recently been commissioned by the Holderness Locality Development Fund to roll out a peripatetic healthtrainer service throughout the Holderness Area. The aim of the Holderness Community Health Trainer service is to improve the health and wellbeing of those individuals that live within the more rural and isolated areas of Holderness.
The east riding health trainer service is dedicated to help provide support, guidance and motivation to individuals who want to make positive long term lifestyle changes, supporting individuals who wish to stop smoking, lose weight, get more physically active, reduce alcohol consumption, reduce stress and anxiety and improve their general wellbeing.
Two ‘additional’ NHS healthtrainers have been recruited and will be based out of Withernsea Pavilion Centre; however, they will be providing regular healthtrainer ‘clinics’ throughout the Holderness Area where individuals can benefit from 1-1 support, guidance and motivation to help individuals make lifestyle changes.
The service will link closely with general practices, local neighbourhood, community development initiatives and will build on existing community/voluntary infrastructures. The programme will link with other health promotion initiatives, services and organisations throughout the Holderness Area.
Anthony Bryce, healthtrainer co-ordinator states, “This is an exciting new project where the NHS Healthtrainer Service can provide those living in the more rural areas of Holderness the possibility of accessing a lifestyle support service which will be beneficial to individuals health and wellbeing”
The NHS healthtrainer service is available to adults aged 18 or above who live within the East Riding of Yorkshire.
The NHS healthtrainers will be holding weekly clinics at Hornsea Cottage Hospital every Tuesday.
Healthtrainers will also be providing a FREE group session entitled Active in Age which is a low level chair based, aerobic group designed to increase mobility and flexibility every Tuesday at Hornsea Cottage Hospital from 3pm.
For further information on the service or if you wish to make an appointment please call the NHS healthtrainers on 0800 9177752 or e-mail healthtrainers@humber.nhs.uk
Further information can also be ascertained from your local GP Surgery or by visiting the NHS Healthtrainer Website www.eastridinghealthtrainers.com.
